Hospitality’s knowledge has always been fragmented.
The porter knew the face. The system kept the booking. The waiter heard about the allergy. Every hotel knew a piece of the guest. None of them knew the whole picture.
Someone in this room knew every guest by name, and how they liked their evening. That was the luxury then. It still is.
Where hotels have kept their memory.
The best hotels have always remembered their guests. What changed was where they kept it, and who could reach it.
The porter
The Savoy opens in London, the first hotel in Britain lit by electric light. Everything about it is new except how it knows its guests: through the people who serve them. When they leave, the hotel forgets.
The system
In Munich, Fidelio’s first software is a guest history: birthdays, favourite tables, favourite wines. The idea is right. But every property keeps its own, and the guest’s history stops at the door.
The scatter
A note in the PMS, a message in a group chat, a spreadsheet in housekeeping, a manager who moved on. The guest says it once, and the hotel hears it in six places, or in none.
- Today
One place
Nown. What a hotel learns about a guest, kept in one place, weighed by where it came from, and carried forward only as the guest allows. The porter’s memory, with the porter’s discretion.
What we hold to.
Said once.
A guest should not have to repeat a preference to the next shift, or on their next stay.
The guest decides what travels.
Guests choose what information travels from one hotel to the next. Sensitive details, such as allergies, are never inferred.
Still a person at the desk.
Nown helps staff remember the small things: the drink, the table by the window, the allergy the kitchen must never miss. It doesn’t replace people. It helps them serve each guest as someone they already know.
